Senate Approves Big North American Trade Deal; Sends To Trump

The big North American trade deal is headed to President Trump's desk after final passage by the Senate.

The vote today was 89-10. The so-called USMCA got strong bipartisan votes in both the Senate and House, which approved the deal before Christmas. The trade pact is one of Trump's top legislative priorities.

The USMCA will replace NAFTA, which was negotiated during the Clinton administration.

Supporters said the trade deal will boost jobs and the overall U.S. economy. Critics complained that the USMCA does not offer enough protections for workers and the environment and does not do enough to curb climate change.
