Court Sides With UT In Confederate Statue Removal

A lawsuit against the University of Texas for the removal of several Confederate statues is now dismissed. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday agreed with a lower court that had found the Texas Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans lacked standing to sue the school over the removal. The organization had claimed that the removal of the statues violated their free speech rights, but the court ruled that they had failed to show they had suffered harm as a result. The statues of Robert E. Lee, Albert Sidney Johnston, John Reagan, and James Stephen Hogg were removed in 2017.
