The House is debating the impeachment of President Trump. Democrats accuse Trump of abusing power and obstructing Congress in the investigation of the Ukraine scandal. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn said Trump "seems to believe he is a king, or above the law." The South Carolina Democrat said lawmakers have a patriotic duty to hold the President accountable. Texas Republican Michael Burgess said impeachment "lacks legitimacy" and he accused Democrats of trying to overturn the results of the 2016 presidential election.
Massachusetts Democrat Jim McGovern insisted that no one is above the law. McGovern said Trump put his personal interest ahead of the national interest and endangered U.S. national security. He argued that the facts are uncontested and the evidence is clear and overwhelming. Oklahoma Republican Tom Cole accused Democrats of leading a divisive, partisan exercise. He said Dems have been looking for a reason to impeach Trump since the day they took control of the House. Cole insisted that the case is weak and accused Dems of mishandling the impeachment investigation.
