Border officials say a human smuggling attempt has been thwarted in Laredo. It happened early yesterday morning when agents were inspecting a tractor-trailer at a Border Patrol checkpoint. Inside a sealed trailer, agents found 27 illegal immigrants, adding they had "no means to escape." Officials say it was a chilly 30 degrees inside. The immigrants were rescued and the U.S. citizen truck driver was taken into custody.
