A police officer is gravely wounded and it appears that two separate suspects may have been neutralized in an active shooter situation in Jersey City, New Jersey. Witnesses say that two men showed up to a kosher supermarket around noontime, before storming in and eventually firing upon a responding police officer. A massive law enforcement presence descended on scene, including the State Police, county SWAT team and bomb squad, and federal officials. For now, sources indicate the situation is criminal in nature and not domestic terrorism, although police are sending a robotic device into the supermarket to try and determine that the shooters are down.
All schools in Jersey City have been placed on lockdown, and NJ Transit service has been affected as authorities demand residents avoid the area. Some reports state that in addition to the gravely wounded officer, who was shot in the head, a second officer may have been injured. Three or four innocent bystanders may have been inside the supermarket when it happened.
