Port Neches residents ordered to shelter in place

A week after the TPC Group chemical plant caught fire, residents in Port Neches are being told to shelter-in-place.

Out of an abundance of caution, Port Neches Fire Chief Paul Nelson has issued a shelter-in-place for the City of Port Neches, based on current conditions.

The shelter-in-place will remain in effect until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning (Thursday, December 5). Unified Command is continuously monitoring air in the community and will provide an update once an all clear is given.

Officials say they are urging residents to move to an interior room with few windows, ensuring exterior doors, air vents and windows are fully closed. All fans, air conditioners, and air heating systems are to be turned off. Occupants under a shelter-in-place are asked to remain in their locations and await further instructions, or an all clear, as advised by the City of Port Neches.

Updates can be found on the Port Neches Response website.
