Dan Broulliette Appointed New Energy Secretary

The U.S. Senate has approved a new energy secretary.

Dan Broulliette, the former deputy energy secretary, was given a promotion Monday in a 70-15 Senate vote, just one day after outgoing energy secretary Rick Perry's resignation became official. Broulliette has served under Perry for two years, overseeing the Energy Department's day-to-day operations.

Perry announced his resignation last month amid accusations of being involved in energy dealings with Ukraine, which is the focus of the current impeachment hearings. Perry says his decision to step down was unrelated to the scandal.
