State Agency: Houston ISD Board Will Be Replaced By Appointees

The Texas Education Agency plans to replace the Houston ISD board of trustees with state-appointed managers. TEA Commissioner Mike Morath notified the district's board president and superintendent about the decision on Wednesday. Morath says the reasons for the takeover include accreditation problems and low-performing schools. He says most of the state appointees will be members of the HISD community. HISD board president Diana Davila says the state agency's decision is an attack on democracy.
