Storms leave damage in Dallas

Update:

People in Dallas are beginning the cleanup after a tornado plowed a 17-mile path of destruction Sunday night. Winds over 100 miles an hour snapped trees and power poles, knocking out electricity to about 130-thousand people. Authorities say there are reports of possible injuries along with downed power lines and heavy damage to homes and businesses. Former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura live in the area where the tornado hit. A representative says they are safe and are praying for their neighbors.

Much of the damage was centered near Love Field and areas east, from Royal Lane to Northwest Highway and from Interstate 75 to Harry Hines Boulevard.

Some North Texas school districts are announcing school closures for today after Sunday night's severe storms. Dallas ISD says classes are canceled for today at Cigarroa Elementary, Pershing Elementary, Thomas Jefferson Elementary, Walnut Hill Elementary, and Cary Middle School. District officials say crews are still surveying damage and more schools may be closed. Midlothian ISD has canceled classes at all schools today. Richardson ISD officials are also assessing damage, and school may be canceled or delayed.
