7 dead, at least 19 wounded in Midland-Odessa shooting spree

Texas Governor Greg Abbott says he'll be in Odessa today, where a gunman killed seven people in a shooting spree. Abbott called Saturday's attack "cowardly," and offered his support to the victims and their families. The shooting started yesterday afternoon when state troopers pulled over a gold-colored car in a traffic stop, and the car's driver, a white man in his mid-30's, fired at the patrol unit. One of the troopers was shot, and is in stable condition. The DPS says the gunman then drove off and began shooting people. A chase ensued, and at one point the shooter changed vehicles and hijacked a mail truck, and crashed into several police vehicles that were blocking his progress. The suspect was killed in a shootout with officers near a movie theater.

By the time the shooting spree was done, seven people were killed and at least 19 were injured. The identities of the suspect and the victims have not been released.
