Multiple victims in Midland-Odessa shootings

At least five people are dead and 21 others wounded in a mass shooting in West Texas today. Police say it began with a routine traffic stop. A state trooper pulled over a gold vehicle in the Odessa-Midland area. That officer was shot. The suspect began driving down Interstate 20 where he apparently shot multiple victims at multiple locations. The suspect then stole a U.S. mail truck, and began driving eastbound and stopped at the Cinergy movie theater in Odessa. There he exchanged gun fire with officers. The suspect is dead.

President Trump is monitoring developments in the Texas shootings. Trump tweeted that he's just been briefed by Attorney General William Barr. He wrote the "FBI and Law Enforcement is fully engaged. More to follow." White House communications officials said earlier the President was monitoring the situation.

Governor Greg Abbott said, "The First Lady and I are heartbroken over this senseless and cowardly attack, and we offer our unwavering support to the victims, their families and all the people of Midland and Odessa."
