A Boerne police officer was injured on Friday night as she was struck by a pickup following the Boerne High School football game.
Officer Michele Stavern suffered serious injuries to her head and left arm and was transported to University Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.
The Boerne Police Department issued the following statement on Facebook, "Boerne Police Officer Michele Van Stavern was standing in the 100 blk N Esser Rd directing traffic out from the north entrance of Boerne High School/Stadium after the Champion High School Football game ended. Officer Van Stavern was wearing a high-visibility traffic vest and holding a wand flashlight to direct traffic. Andrew Harris, 35 yoa of Boerne, was traveling southbound on N. Esser in his Ford F150 pick-up truck when he struck Officer Van Stavern. Officer Van Stavern sustained serious injuries to her left arm and head and was transported by Kendall County EMS to University Hospital. Mr. Harris stopped at the scene and was arrested by the Texas DPS Trooper who was investigating the crash. Mr. Harris is being charged with Intoxication Assault and being held at the Kendall County Jail. At the time of this post, Officer Van Stavern is in stable condition. Officer Van Stavern is the School Resource Officer assigned to Boerne Middle School North and has worked for the Boerne Police Department for about 4 years. Intoxication Assault is a Third-Degree Felony, 2-10 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000. Please keep Officer Van Stavern and her family in your prayers."
