Arpaio To Run For Sheriff Again

Arizona's Joe Arpaio is running for sheriff again. Arpaio, a Republican, served as sheriff of Maricopa County from 1993 until 2016, when he lost a re-election bid to Democrat Paul Penzone. The 87-year-old known as "America's Toughest Sheriff" was convicted of criminal contempt of court for refusing to stop racial profiling practices, but he was eventually pardoned by President Trump. Arpaio says if he's elected to serve a seventh term he will re-open the Tent City jail that was closed in 2017. He also vowed to enforce all Arizona laws that deal with drug and sex trafficking, as well as other crimes associated with the border and illegal immigration.
