Pence: U.S. committed to expanding space exploration

Vice President Mike Pence says the Trump Administration is committed to expanding space exploration and renewing leadership in commercial space. Speaking today at the sixth meeting of the National Space Council, Pence says the Trump Administration plans to put a man and the first woman on the moon by 2024. Pence added that they are prioritizing returning to the Moon to establish a foundation for an eventual mission to Mars. Pence says astronauts must spend months or even years on the moon to test systems that would need to be used to make the journey to Mars. The National Space Council was created during the George H.W. Bush Administration, was disbanded in 1993, and re-established in June 2017 by President Trump.
