The 2019-2020 school year hasn't begun yet, but already students at Northside's Health Careers High School can hold up the big foam finger, because they're number one, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports,
Health Careers has been named the top public high school in the San Antonio metro area by Niche.com, the lifestyle web site that also ranks neighborhoods, communities, and employers.
Niche says in addition to school graduation, college acceptance, and grade performance data, it also spoke with former students and their parents, and used information about 'experience' issues, like extra curricular activitie, to issue its findings.
Number two in Niche's rankings of local high schools is Reagan High in the North East ISD, followed by North East's International School of the Americas at LEE High School.
NorthEast's Johnson High School is number four, followed by Alamo Heights High School and Judson Early College Academy.
Niche also ranked the top school districts in the area. The Alamo Heights ISD finished at the top, followed by the three military ISDs, Ft. Sam, Lackland, and Randolph.
Cole HS in the Ft. Sam ISD was number one as the 'most diverse' high school in the region, followed by Judson Early College Academy and Steele HS in the Schertz Cibolo Universal City ISD.
The 'best teachers' are at International School of the Americas, followed by Reagan HS, the Frank Madla Early College High School, which is a cooperation of the Alamo Colleges and New Frontier Charter Schools. Fourth on 'best teachers' is Johnson HS, and the School of Science and Technology, an open enrollment charter school.
The best public schools in the region for 'college prep,' according to Niche, are Health Careers at number one, followed by Alamo Heights High School and Reagan HS.
Southwest High School in the Southwest ISD is the largest public high school in the region, followed by Reagan at Number 2 and Madison at Number 3.
