Possible Genetic Component To Disrupted Sleep Cycle

If your sleep cycle is out of whack, it could be your parents' fault. A new study out of UC-San Francisco shows there could be a genetic explanation for why some people are wide awake at 5:00 a.m. and others are barely awake at 9:00 a.m.  Researchers have found a mutated gene that runs in families and affects what's known as advanced sleep phase. People affected by it are early risers but rarely consult sleep doctors because their employers and teachers don't complain about them showing up early.
