The death penalty is on the table for the man accused of gunning down 22 people Saturday at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas. El Paso County District Attorney Jaime Esparza said the suspect is being charged with capital murder, which comes with the penalty of death. U.S. Attorney John Bash says he is in communication with Attorney General Bill Barr and the Texas shooting is being investigated as a federal hate crime, which also comes with the penalty of death. The U.S. is looking into the case as domestic terrorism. Bash defined it as an agenda designed to intimidate a civilian population. El Paso's chief of police says the shooter surrendered immediately when he came into contact with law enforcement and is being cooperative in the investigation. The guns used in the shooting were purchased legally.
