The New York City Fire Department now says their 200th member has died as a result of 9-11 related illness. FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro made the announcement today, calling the number almost incomprehensible, given 343 members died on September 11th itself. The news comes just one day after the bipartisan bill that would have extended the 9-11 victims' compensation fund for 70 years was blocked, citing concerns over the growing national debt. Nigro released a statement noting the 200th department death, saying the FDNY will never forget.
