Officials are confirming the death of a Texas deputy was due to a medical emergency, not a shooting. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that a pulmonary embolism and some blood clots led to the death of Sergeant Keith Shepherd. It was widely reported yesterday that Shepherd was found with a gunshot wound to his head Friday evening inside his police vehicle at a downtown Fort Worth parking garage. Police say because of the amount of blood it was reported to be a shooting by the first people on scene. Officials confirmed Shepherd likely fell and hit his head during the medical emergency and was somehow able to climb into the vehicle where he died. The sergeant was a 19-year veteran of the force.

Authorities in Fort Worth, Texas are investigating after a sheriff's deputy was fatally shot Friday night. Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn identified the victim as Sergeant Keith Shepherd, a 19-year veteran with the department. Waybourn says Shepherd went on his lunch break Friday and when he didn't return, deputies looked for him and found in his personal vehicle in the employee parking garage, suffering from head injuries. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made and no suspects have been named.
