1 Cadet Dies, 21 Injured After Truck Flips Over Near West Point

Family, friends, and members of the community are mourning a West Point cadet who was killed in an accident yesterday. Officials say one cadet died and 21 others were injured when an armored transport truck flipped over near the academy. The cadet has not been named, and the nature of the fatal injury has not been disclosed. Army soldiers were driving the cadets to a map-reading and land-based navigational exercise in the morning and Highland Falls Mayor Joe D'Onofrio says people in the village are heartbroken over the death. "When West Point has sadness,” he notes. “It affects us deeply in our hearts." As for the survivors, military personnel says the injuries ranged from abrasions to a broken arm, and everyone is expected to be okay. As for what happened exactly? No one seems to know how or why the accident occurred – the investigation continues.

2 Talks On Threatened Mexico Tariffs Are Over For Now

Talks over threatened tariffs on Mexico are over for now…and it would appear that at least some progress has been made - though no one's specifying how much. Mexican and Trump administration officials negotiated at the State Department for several hours – which followed a high-level meeting at the White House the day before. But unless something magical happens, it appears it’ll be full steam ahead on Monday. “Position has not changed,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders says in a statement. “We are still moving forward with tariffs at this time.” And that squares with President Trump, who appears recalcitrant to the widespread opposition in Congress to the move, including from many Republicans. In an exclusive interview with Laura Ingraham on Fox News, Trump said Republicans “should love” what he's doing with tariffs on Mexico. And incidentally, he says Mexico only has itself to blame for the situation because they “allow all those migrants to walk through their country” to reach the U.S. border.

3 Democrats Call On Trump To Reconsider 4th Of July Address

House Democrats are asking President Trump to reconsider a 4th of July address on the National Mall. In a letter, three Democrats claimed the address "could create the appearance of a televised, partisan campaign rally on the Mall at the public's expense." The event typically brings thousands of visitors to our nation's capital to celebrate America's founding. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is among the three who authored the letter, said Trump's efforts to politicize a celebration of our nation's history that is normally non-partisan is "alarming." "For decades, the Fourth of July on the National Mall has been non-partisan and apolitical," the group offered. "We respectfully call on you to look for ways to complement, not conflict with, the Fourth of July celebration, such as considering an earlier time or alternative location for your remarks." Trump didn't publicly respond by press time.
