The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is confirming that one student was killed in a school shooting in Colorado. The student's identity hasn't been released, but the county coroner said the victim is an 18-year-old male. Seven others were injured in the shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch this afternoon. Two suspects have been taken into custody. Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock says both of the suspects in today's shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch are believed to be students at the school. Spurlock said it's believed they opened fire at two locations in the school. Spurlock emphasized that police aren't looking for any further suspects in the case.
According to the school's website, the school is described as "an innovative, free, public, charter learning community that exists to innovate K-12 education in order to prepare every student to lead change, solve problems and succeed in an exponentially changing world. We are more than a school. We are a think tank, a learning lab and a catalyst for creativity. We are a haven for continual innovation, creative exploration, and rigorous discovery. The school was founded in 2011 with a Charter from Douglas County School District, the school served grades 6-9. Since that time, the school has grown to over 1,850 students serving grades K-12.
