The polls have closed in the 2019 municipal elections, and the first results should be available soon, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The most closely watched race is for Mayor of San Antonio, with Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Councilman Greg Brockhouse the leaders among nine candidates in

the race.

San Antonio voters are also electing all ten City Council seats,

including open seats in districts 2, 4, and 6.

With the large number of candidates vying for the seats, plus the small turnout, which will magnify the vote percentages of the minor candidates, many races, including the race for mayor, are likely to go to runoffs between the top two finishers. To win outright, a candidate needs to get 50% plus one of the votes cast.

Elections are also taking place for mayor and city council in suburban cities, and for seats on several school boards.
