A wild three county chase that began in San Marcos and stretched down I-35 at speeds of 100 miles an hour, ended when the driver being pursued pulled into the parking lot of a San Antonio middle school, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
San Marcos Police say John Albert Barron, 30, was spotted speeding down I-35 and an officer tried to pull him over. But Barron allegedly sped away, turned southbound on the Interstate, and the chase was on.
The chase went through three counties, and involved not just the San Marcos Police Department, but police in New Braunfels, Live Oak, San Antonio, and the Bexar County Sheriff.
Barron turned west on Loop 410 and exited on Vance Jackson, pulling into, for unknown reasons, the parking lot of Jackson Middle School.
He then jumped out of the car and ran toward a construction site. Despite efforts by police on the ground and a police helicopter, Barron remains at large.
It is not known why he was so adamant about getting away from police, but they say there was a 'strong odor of marijuana' in the car.
A male passenger was in the car throughout the wild chase. He was released and will not face charges.
