Fire crews have managed to knock down a massive fire at the Marbach Square Apartments in the 1800 block of Horal, on the west side outside Loop 410, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
When fire crews arrived they found flames shooting out from under the eves of the building, and black smoke pouring out of apartment balconies. A second alarm was called and at one point more than thirty fire units were on the scene.
Fire officials immediately made the decision to 'go defensive,' to focus mainly on preventing the flames from spreading in the gusty winds. The entire building was immediately ordered evacuated.
One woman was taken to the hospital for observation. The Red Cross and the Fire Department are trying to find a place to stay for residents who lost everything in the fire.
No word yet on the cause of the fire.
