Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar says Air Force Major Andre McDonald, the husband of Andreen McDonald, was detained by Air Force investigators due to 'mental health concerns,' as officials investigate the 'very suspicious' disappearance of his wife, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Salazar revealed that officials operating surveillance on McDonald saw him leave the couple's home at Canyon Golf and Wilderness Oak, in far north Bexar County and go to a gun store.
"He was observed buying a handgun and ammunition," Salazar said.. "He departed the store in a such a hurry that he left the gun he had just purchased and the ammunition he had just purchased on the counter and left with only the ammunition."
Salazar said officials were worried that McDonald may be entertaining 'some suicidal thoughts.'
Salazar says 'evidence was found in plain sight' inside the home, where deputies have obtained a search warrant.. He says 'blood evidence' was found inside the house,
He says McDonald is not being listed as a 'suspect' because officials are not certain that a crime has been committed.
The missing woman, 29, is the mother of a six year old child, who is the care of relatives.
"We are still pursuing this as a missing persons case, but it could very well turn into a homicide case," Salazar said.
McDonald is in the custody of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.. The FBI has also entered the case, Salazar said.
