Nirenberg Opens Campaign For a Second Term

With his wife Erica Prosper and their son Jonah by his side, as they have been throughout his political career, Ron Nirenberg this morning announced plans for a campaign for a second term as Mayor of San Antonio, 1200 WOAI reports.

Nirenberg made his announcement on a chilly, windy morning at Alamo Stadium, with its commanding view of the city skyline.

In an impressive show of support, Nirenberg was joined by numerous community leaders for the announcement.

"What a difference two years makes!" Nirenberg declared.. "I have worked hard over the last two years to give you the city you deserve. All are welcome here!"

Nirenberg cited the city's strong economy, pointing out the construction cranes visible from the hill.. He also cited the city's thirty year low crime rate, and San Antonio's status as the fastest growing big city in the country.

He also stressed the success of two of his key initiatives, the 'equity budget' and his comprehensive housing policy.

"This housing plan is now being held up as a national model,"

He said a plan by Alamo  Colleges to expand educational and job training initiative without crippling tuition costs will be a centerpiece of a second term at City Hall.

The only serious potential competitor facing Nirenberg is northwest side Councilman Greg Brockhouse, who has been a frequent critic of Nirenberg.. Brockhouse has not announced his political plans.
