Police in the bedroom community of Cibolo are on the trail of someone who's been leaving tainted hotdogs on area sidewalks, likely to hurt pets and stray animals, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Officers say they've found glass and metal shards, as well as pharmaceuticals, inside wieners in at least one neighborhood.

"The event started on the evening of January 4th and was reported on January 5th.  On January 12th and January 14th more pieces were located but it is believed these may have been put out on the 4th and were not located and collected," Police said.

Detectives say they've identified a person of interest, but not a firm suspect as of yet.

Investigators say, so far, no one has reported a pet sickened or injured by the hotdogs. They're asking anyone who spots suspicious food on sidewalks or other public areas to call in the location and not touch the item.

Should an animal become deceased from these items, the charge could be “Cruelty to Non livestock Animals”, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $4,000 and/or 1 year in jail.
