U.S. soldiers will remain along the U.S. border with Mexico through September. The acting head of the Department of Defense approved extending the mission of troops supporting the Department of Homeland Security along the border. However, soldiers are switching up their role from hardening ports of entry to surveillance and detection. The Pentagon says it will also provide air support to border agents. There are about 23-hundred troops on the border with Mexico.
