A clerk at a northwest side 7-11 store was shot multiple times in what police say was a bungled robbery attempt, News Radio 1200 WOAI news reports.
Police tell 1200 WOAI news that the suspect, was was wearing a mask, apparently waited for several customers to leave the convenience store at I-10 and Callaghan.. He then walked in and announced it was a robbery.
Police say the clerk, a man in his early thirties, attempted to fight back.. The would be robber then pulled a handgun and started firing, hitting the victim several times.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital with no vital signs.. He was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses saw the suspect running toward I-10.
Officers are talking with witnesses and reviewing surveillance video.. It is not believed that the gunman stole anything from the store.
