Oldest World War II veteran Richard Overton of Austin has died

The nation's oldest veteran has died.  Austin resident Richard Overton was 112 and a veteran of World War Two.  For his recent birthdays he threw a community party in his front yard as  people from all over central Texas would come to say hello.  He enlisted  in the Army in 1942 and served in the Pacific until 1945.  He enjoyed  cigars throughout his life, a bad habit he picked up as a teen.  He drove a car until he was 107.
