Dow Gains 1,000 Points on Strong Retail Performance

The Dow Jones Industrial Average had a banner day on Wednesday, ending the day up more than one-thousand points.

At the closing bell, the Dow gained  1,086 points to 22,878.  The Nasdaq surged 361 points to 6,554.  The  S&P 500 rose 117 points to 2,468.  

Retailers were driving the Dow Jones  Industrial Average surge. Shares of Dollar General, Wayfair and Kohl's all rose more than 6% after posting strong holiday  numbers.  The energy sector also pushed the market as U.S. crude oil  prices shot more than eight-percent with Marathon Oil and Hess leading the charge.
