Julian Castro Inching Closer To Run For President

In a video posted to YouTube, former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro announced that he's forming an presidential exploratory committee, Newsradio 1200 WOAI reports.

The move paves the way for Castro to start rising funds.

"Americans are ready to climb out of this darkness. We're ready to keep our promises and we're not going to wait. We're going to work. And that's why i'm exploring a candidacy for the president of the united states," he said in the video posted this morning.

Castro's video was heavy on his time growing up in San Antonio and his family.

"I'm taking a lesson from my mother," he explains.  "If we want to see a change in this country, we dont wait, we work."

Castro says he'll decide in January if he'll officially run for president.  If he does, he'll join a crowded field that will likely be larger than the number of Republicans who run last presidential election.

And one competitor will likely be fellow Texan Democrat Beto O'Rourke. Since losing to Ted Cruz, he's been meeting with several high profile Democrats, including President Barack Obama and the Rev. Al Sharpton.
