H-E-B Donating 225,000 Pounds of Turkey to Food Banks Statewide

H-E-B is making plans to feed needy Texans all across the state this holiday season, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The company unloaded its first truck filled with turkeys at the San Antonio Food Bank today, and H-E-B's Julie Bedingfield says here are plenty of loads to come.

"This is the first trailer load today, but we will have a total of nine trailers to distribute to our food banking partners," she said.

San Antonio Food Bank CEO Eric Cooper says it is an amazing gift."

The right thing, in the right amounts, at the right time," he said.  "We're going to make sure everybody has a great Thanksgiving, thanks to H-E-B.  Those traditions carry on with us."

Bedingfield a total of 225,000 pounds of turkeys are being distributed over the coming couple of weeks.

"H-E-B, knowing that we are struggling with the demand, they though not only of us, but thought of food banks across the state that are facing similar challenges," Cooper said.

Cooper says H-E-B provides nearly one fourth of all of the food donations to the San Antonio Food Bank.

Bedingfield says in 2017, H-E-B's Food Bank Assistance Program donated 33.2 million pounds of food to food banks in Texas and Mexico, equal to over 24 million meals.
