Chip Roy Wins Bid for Texas's 21st Congressional District

Republican Chip Roy has won the race for Texas's 21st Congressional District seat.

He defeated Democratic challenger Joseph Kopser with 51.5 percent of the vote.

The district spans nearly 6,000 square miles  from north San Antonio, up Interstate-35, and into Austin. This is the  first time the seat has been vacant since the late ‘80s. Rep. Lamar  Smith announced his retirement last year.

Roy most recently served as the vice  president of strategy for the Texas Public Policy Foundation.  Previously, he served first assistant attorney general of Texas under  Ken Paxton, chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and as a senior advisor  to Texas Gov. Rick Perry, including as director of State-Federal  Relations for the State of Texas.
