S.A. Gas Prices Fall, But Iran Sanctions Spike Looms

San Antonio gas prices have finally begun to fall, as the Atlantic hurricane season winds down, and refineries conclude their switch to winter blend gasoline, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

AAA Texas says San Antonio motorists today are paying $2.50 per gallon on average, that is down sharply from $2.65 last week.

The fact that driving is curtailed in the early autumn is also helping with the price drop. But there are storm clouds on the horizon that could push the prices back up.

“Motorists are paying less at the pump week-to-week yet again across Texas,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas/AAA New Mexico spokesperson. “For the next couple of weeks, market analysts suggest drivers can anticipate prices at the pump to fall, but there are concerns that Iranian sanctions could cause prices to reverse course once sanctions take effect in November."

The possibility of Iran sanctions, plus the loss of production from Venezuela, are one of the reasons why our gas price today is elevated from the $2.16 we were paying during the last week of October of 2016.

But our price today is the second lowest in Texas, behind the $2.49 paid today by drivers in McAllen.

And we have far lower prices than the national average of $2.84.
