Carlos Uresti, who is facing 12 years in prison for ripping off investors in a bogus fracking sand company today pleaded guilty to another felony charge, bribing a west Texas county judge, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
In a surprise appearance before a federal magistrate, Uresti entered a guilty plea to a federal bribery charge.
Uresti pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.
By entering the plea, Uresti admitted that he conspired to facilitate the payment of bribes to Jimmy Galindo, the former county judge in Reeves County, in an attempt to secure the medical services contract at the county jail for a company that was paying him $10,000 a month.
Uresti is on bond pending the disposition of this criminal case.
Uresti was convicted earlier this year of defrauding investors in FourWinds Logistics, a fracking sand company which he knew was a Ponzi scheme.
Uresti and several other defendants in that case have also been ordered to repay up to $5 million to investors
.Uresti is set for sentencing in this case in January.
