Bexar Elections Administrator Preparing for Emotional Election Day

Bexar County Elections Administrator Jackie Callanan says she is preparing for the possibility that 'tensions will run high' at the polls on Election Day, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

This has been a uniquely violent election season, with Democrats wearing masks, confronting Republicans in places like restaurants, and some party officials, including former Attorney General Eric Holder, using violent language to encourage Democrats to oppose President Trump, Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and Republican policies.

"We've seen this in the past, I refer to them as robust campaigners," she said.  "They don't start aggressive but they build up as the day goes on."

There is supposed to be a buffer zone around all polling places, inside which no election campaigning can take place.  She says she will be briefing all poll workers on the rules and how to enforce them.

"Part of our training for our election officials is to pay attention to that," she said.  "We want our voters to be treated with respect through the entire process."

Police regularly patrol to polling sites on Election Day, and rules will be enforced which prohibit 'out of control' political demonstrations.
