A 48 year old man is in custody after a routine traffic stop by New Braunfels Police turned into a 100 mph, two county chase, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
It started in the 1000 block of South Walnut in New Braunfels, after police attempted to pull the man over for a welfare check, after receiving a report that the driver may have a weapon.
But instead, he pulled away and led police and DPS on a chase through Comal County and into Guadalupe County, down I-35 to Schertz, and then back up to New Braunfels.
The chase ended about where it began, when the man smashed his vehicle into a tree in the 1800 block of Walnut.
He was arrested and is facing numerous charges, including drunk driving, Felony evading arrest with a vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance.
Police say more charges may be pending.
