Kavanaugh Clears Procedural Hurdle In Senate

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh cleared a key procedural hurdle today.  Senators voted to cut off debate and proceed to a confirmation vote for the veteran federal judge.  The vote was 51-49.  A confirmation vote is expected to happen tomorrow or Sunday.  Alaska's Lisa Murkowski was the only Republican to vote no on the procedural vote.  West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin voted yes today.  Murkowski and Manchin have not revealed how she will vote on confirmation.

The procedural vote followed a tumultuous couple of weeks, highlighted by sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh.  The veteran federal judge strongly denied the accusations.
