San Antonio's year long Tricentennial celebration is all about history, and people can get their fill of history during Museum Month, coming up in October, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
In a special agreement among twelve museums and cultural attractions, from the McNay to the north to Mission Espada to the south, anyone who is a member or employee of any of the museums can enjoy free admission to all the others during the month.
VIA will even provide free transportation between the museums every Saturday in October.
"The San Antonio museums are the perfect places to immerse one's self in the Tricentennial spirit," City Tricentennial Director Carlos Contreras said.
Participating facilities include a wide range of attractions, from the Witte Museum and the Doseum Children's Museum to the Southwest School of Art, Artpace, and the Briscoe Western Art Museum to Villa Finale, the exquisitely preserved 19th Century Italianate mansion in the King William neighborhood.
"Museums aren't about things, they are about stories and people," Contreras said.
Many of the museums have special events running in conjunction with museum reach, like the interesting '3-D' look at 19th Century San Antonio stereopticon photographs, which is now underway at the Briscoe.
