You've heard of maternity leave, paternity leave is becoming more common, and now we have 'fur-ternity' leave, when an employee adopts a pet, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Two major San Antonio employers, the Zoo and Thomas J. Henry Injury Attorneys, are offering two days of paid leave to every full time employee who adopts a pet from the city pound, or from four approved non profit rescue groups, the Animal Defense League, the Humane Society, San Antonio Pets Alive and Mystery Dog Rescue.
"Adopting a pet is a significant decision and changes everyday life considerably," San Antonio Zoo CEO Tim Morrow said. "We want to support our team members during their first days with their new family member."
Thomas J. Henry stated “We encourage our employees and our communities to adopt dogs and cats from local animal shelters and rescue organizations and to be responsible pet owners. Bark in the Park takes place in both San Antonio and Corpus Christi and encourages adoptions while financially benefitting local animal shelters and organizations.”
The two employers say they hope the 'fur-ternity' benefit policy expands to other employers, to encourage more pets will be adopted.
