It's now up to Air Force investigators to determine the cause of Tuesday afternoon's crash of a trainer aircraft on San Antonio's far north side, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The plane, identified by the Air Force as a T-6A Texan II, plowed into an open area north of Loop 1604 between Nacogdoches and Evans roads and behind Rolling Oaks Mall around 4 p.m., says San Antonio Fire Dept. spokesman Joe Arrington.
Arrington says the aircraft broke apart upon impact after the two occupants safely ejected.
"No injuries, no fire - its was really fortunate where it went down. There was absolutely no homes or anything in the area," Arrington says.
Arrington says the crew parachuted safely and was checked out by EMS. The aircraft posd no further danger after coming to earth.
"There was no fuel remaining in the aircraft fhat was posing any kind of a leak or a threat," says Arrington.
Air Force personnel arrived around 5:30 p.m. to begin their work pieecing together clues as to why the aircraft malfunctioned.
