A man in his late fifties was killed overnight when he tried to run across a darkened stretch of Perrin-Beitel Road away from a crosswalk and was run over by a passing car, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Police say the man had just left a convenience store in the 9100 block of Perrin-Beitel, which is just outside Loop 410, and was attempting to dash across the busy road when he was hit by a car.
EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene. The driver stopped and said he 'never saw the man' in the darkness and no charges will be filed.
As is often the case in tragic incidents like this, police say there was a marked and lighted crosswalk less than 100 yards away.
