A series of big events surrounding the San Antonio Tricentennial has pushed traffic at San Antonio International Airport to record highs, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The airport, for the first time ever, saw 900,000 passengers get on and get off planes in July. That's up ten percent over last July's passenger load.
The Airport credits big events in San Antonio, the strong economy, which boosts travel, and the new flights which have been added by Southwest, American, Frontier, and other airlines, including several new non stops.
Eleven new non stops will start flying in August, meaning passenger levels for this month are expected to set a record as well.
International flights also set a passenger record last month, up 16% in August. This despite the fact that San Antonio's non stop international destinations are limited.
Additionally, SAT experienced a significant increase in cargo, processing more than 22,000,000 pounds of cargo. The number represents an extraordinary 15% increase from year-to-year. This is the fourth time this year the airport has experienced a double-digit increase, and the 12th consecutive month of growth for cargo.
