San Antonio already has won one NCAA College Basketball Final Four in the coming decade, today it will make a pitch to host a second, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Jenny Carnes with San Antonio Sports, who organized this past spring's very successful Men's NCAA Final Four, says she will be meeting today with representatives of the Organizing Committee for Women's Final Fours in the early part of the next decade.
She says just like with the Men's event, San Antonio has plenty of experience, having hosted two Women's Final Fours at the Alamodome.
"Their event needs to come back to San Antonio, deserves to come back to San Antonio, and really fits well in San Antonio," Carnes said.
She pointed out that the Alamodome still holds the national record for the largest attendance ever at a women's college basketball game, set during the 2002 Women's Final Four at the Alamodome.
"Our pitch to them is, if you want to grow your game and your sport, come back to a larger facility, and we'll fill it up again."
As a testament to the growth of women's college basketball, eight other cities, including Dallas and Houston, will also be vying for the Final Fours that will be determined in this round.
