There was standing room only even in the overflow room at Christ Episcopalian Church in Monte Vista today as people who loved and respected Tom Frost gathered for his memorial service, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Mr. Frost died last week at the age of 90.
He had been CEO of his family's Frost Bank for thirty five years before his retirement in the 1990s, but he stayed on board as Senior Chairman.
Mr. Frost was also a community leader in many respects. He took the lead in the development of critical San Antonio landmarks from the Medical Center to Hemisfair 68.He also was a friendly face who preserved and grew the community's wealth, even when other banks were falling victim to fads and schemes. During Mr. Frost's leadership, Frost Bank became the largest Texas-owned bank.
He was remembered at his service today as a man who loved his family, loved God, and loved his community.
Born at Santa Rosa Hospital on October 29, 1927, Thomas Clayborne Frost, generally known as 'Tom Jr,' was also intimately involved in events ranging from the Stock Show and Rodeo to the building of the AT&T Center. It was through Mr. Frost's influence that the Presidents of the United States and Mexico and the Prime Minister of Canada gathered in San Antonio in 1992 to sign the North American Free Trade Agreement.
