A man who was found with a gunshot wound at a gas station on West Avenue overnight pointed police to a home in the 2200 block of Basse, where they found a man in his forties dead on the floor from several gunshot wounds, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Detectives think the man who turned up with the gunshot wound may have been a burglary suspect who entered the home, and then engaged in a gunbattle with people inside. Detectives aren't sure if the dead man was one of the robbers, or one of the residents who fought back.
There was nobody in the home when police arrived and found the dead body, and the man who turned up at the gas station with the gunshot wound isn't telling them anything.
He was taken to the hospital with non life threatening wounds.
