James Paxton and a pair of relievers combined to pitch a shut out as the Mariners blanked the Astros 2-0 at Safeco Field. Paxton struck out eight across seven innings of scoreless ball to pick up the win. Nelson Cruz drove in both runs with a double in the sixth and Edwin Diaz locked down his 40th. Seattle improved to 63-and-43. Gerrit Cole surrendered four hits and two runs across six-and-two-thirds to take the loss. The Astros have dropped five in-a-row.
