Three Suspects in Mission Vandalism Released on Bond

Three friends accused of spray painting an anti-Trump message on one of San Antonio's historic missions are free on bond after making their initial appearance in federal court this week, Newsradio 1200 WOAI reports.

Federal Magistrate Judge Richard Farrer set specific drug testing requirements before issuing bonds of $25 thousand.

"If there is any kind of violation whatsoever, the consequence is revocation," he said in court.

Last month, security cameras at Mission San Jose caught three people armed with spray paint bottles.  The words, "I don't care, do you?" were written on the visitor center.  It echoed the message printed on the back of first lady Melania Trump's jacket as she vested migrant children in South Texas.

There was also anti-ICE rhetoric written as well.

One day later, Andres Castaneda, 19, turned himself in to police.  He named Gabriella Fritz, 20, as an accomplice, according to an arrest affidavit.

A third suspect, Sydney Faris, was also arrested.

All three face charges of degradation of government property.  If found guilty, that carries a maximum sentence of ten years in prison and a $250-thousand fine.

All three have been appointed public defenders for the arraignment, which will be August 7.
