Triple Digit Temps Require a Change in Regular Activities

110 degrees shows no mercy, and Dr. Clayton Nuelle at TSAOG Orthopaedics in San Antonio says you don't have to be a roofer or a highway construction worker to suffer significant health problems in heat like this, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

"Even mowing the yard for a half an hour, you can get dehydrated very fast," Dr. Nuelle said.

He says something else that can happen very fast is a painful and potentially very dangerous sunburn.  Even though it may not be comfortable when its 110 degrees outside, he says long pants and long sleeve shirts are the best protection.

"When the sun is blaring down on you, you can get burned in a very short duration of time," he said.  "A lot of times people don't think about that, because they don't want to wear a lot of clothing when its very hot."

He says even not engaging in activities can have negative consequences during weather like this.  He says even sitting beside the pool can cause problems when it is this hot.

"If you want to go to a workout or go for a run, or even go to the pool, the best thing to do is to do it early in the day, when it is not as hot."
